Programme of work of the Committee on Science and Technology

In its decision 16/COP.5 on the programme of work of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST), the Conference of the Parties decided that the priority issue to be addressed in depth by the CST at its sixth session shall be "Land degradation, vulnerability and rehabilitation: an integrated approach". It invited Parties to submit reports on case studies illustrating best practices and innovative research relating to the above theme. The report of the secretariat on this theme is contained in ICCD/COP(6)/CST/2 and reports submitted by Parties are available below in their entirety.

Land Degradation Assessment in Drylands (LADA) and the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA)

By decision 19/COP.5, the Conference of the Parties requested the secretariat to continue to follow closely the activities of the LADA and the MA and to facilitate the involvement of the Parties, in order that the concerns of the Parties are taken into account in the assessments. It requested the secretariat to report on the progress of these two initiatives at the sixth session of the Committee on Science and Technology. The secretariat's report is contained in ICCD/COP(6)/CST/7, and the contributions by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the secretariat of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment are available below in their entirety.
