Development & Funding Partners

All Parties to the UNCCD share a commitment to urgent action to combat desertification and land degradation and agree that this requires enhanced investments from national, international and private sector resources, favourable political priority setting among development partners and favourable conditions for private sector investment.

Continuous support to the implementation of the Convention will require effective partnerships, comprehensive resource mobilization and aligned fund-raising.

Through our partnerships with development and funding partners we aim to strengthen the UNCCD impact chain. Relatively small investments through the UNCCD process can, through of economies of scale, help facilitate policy reform and leverage larger investment and change at national level.  A small investment through the UNCCD process will bring tangible impact and measurable benefits in the drylands.

At COP 10, UNCCD parties took note of the UNCCD/Global Mechanism Common Fund-Raising Strategy.

You can find out more detail about the financial requirements and priorities of the UNCCD process in the detailed work-plans or by reading the Financial Requirements 2012-2013 e-publication.  We will update these requirements to let you know the progress we are making in mobilizing resources against the overall biennium resource requirements and to acknowledge the support we receive from our development partners.

We take the opportunity to thank those Parties and organizations that supported the UNCCD process during the last biennium.  In 2010-2011 we received new additional voluntary contributions from: China, Czech Republic, Elion Resources Group, European Commission, Germany, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Rep. of Korea, Lichtenstein, Prince Albert II Foundation (Monaco), Nigeria, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UAE.
