Fourth special session of the Committee on Science and Technology and UNCCD 3rd scientific conference

The 4th special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S-4) will take place in Cancún, Mexico from 9 to 12 March 2015.

The CST S-4 will be held in conjunction with the UNCCD 3rd scientific conference which is convened under the theme “Combating desertification/ land degradation and drought (DLDD) for poverty reduction and sustainable development – the contribution of science, technology, traditional knowledge and practices”.

Global changes are expected to aggravate DLDD, and the vulnerability of populations, particularly those living in drylands. The conference will therefore focus on how to anticipate the impact of climate change and land degradation, in order to be able to promote adaptive methods of using ecosystems to reduce poverty and environmental degradation while achieving sustainable development.

conference impulse report entitled "Climate change and desertification: Anticipating, assessing & adapting to future change in drylands" was prepared  to inform the conference deliberations. The executive summary of this report is available in the six languages of the United Nations as contained in document ICCD/CST(S-4)/2.

The book of abstracts gathers the abstracts of the 197 contributions which will be presented at the conference as posters.

The detailed conference programme and the list of side events are available on the UNCCD 3rd scientific conference website.

Registration as well as application for side events and for booths are now closed.

The call for journalists wishing to participate at the CST S-4 and UNCCD 3rd Scientific Conference is still open. More information, the application form and the press kit can be found here.
