This is the second of the series, "Making it compelling", which breaks down complex information on desertification, land degradation and drought into understandable elements that engage people.
In recent years, the emergence of environmental issues has drawn attention worldwide to the necessity of promoting awareness as one means to improve society's understanding of sustainable resource management. The World Day to Combat Desertification and the United Nations Decade for Deserts and the Fight against Desertification provide unique opportunities to raise awareness about land degradation and desertification and to mobilize public support and pressure needed to achieve the necessary transition to a Land-Degradation Neutral World.
Each year country parties, academia, NGO’s, media and other concerned stakeholders utilized such occasions to highlight the challenges posed by DLDD through dedicated festivities. The constant recurring challenge however - whether you plan a music festival, an exhibition, a conference, or a media gathering- is about how to build buzz, fill seats, and turn your gathering into an exciting event that attract your audience and make people aware of the DLDD issue at the same time.
This side event will bring together National Focal Points, media experts, campaigners, advertisers and event planer to discuss best practices to foster media attention to DLDD issues. It focuses on effective strategies how to most effectively use new technologies, advertising and good old-fashioned campaigning designed to help your events shine.
