Ever since the Changwon Initiative was launched by the Government of the Republic of Korea during the Tenth Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP 10), it has been supporting the implementation of The Strategy. The Changwon Initiative aims at capitalizing on the potentials of the UNCCD implementation process and will help anchor the Convention firmly into an action-oriented approach.
Substantial progress has been made in the past two years with regard to the implementation of the activities under the following three components:
1. enhancing the scientific process of the UNCCD
2. mobilizing additional resources and facilitating partnership arrangements
3. Supporting a global framework for the promotion of best practices: the Land for Life Award
By highlighting the important role and contribution of the Changwon Initiative in the convention process, this session will inform and update participants on the latest development regarding progress made on the substantive activities supported by the Changwon Initiative. It will also present the opportunity to promote participation and support of new partners and country Parties
