The issue of desertification should be considered as a trans-boundary environmental problem in the global level. Especially, it is causing critical damages from sand storms from the affecting countries. Thus, researches on transforming the deserts into green land are a necessity in worldwide. Recently, some researches on soil improvement, irrigation, and tree planting are being carried out to rehabilitate the dry lands that are vulnerable to the influence of desertification with vegetation.
This side event focuses on the efforts of the Republic of Korea to combat desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD). Apart from various projects and activities at home and abroad, the Center for Combating Desertification in Arid and Semi-arid Areas (CCDASA) was launched recently to concentrate on relevant scientific researches on combating desertification supported by Korea Forest Service, Republic of Korea. Participants can learn about the efforts being made by the Korean Government and it’s affiliated agencies.
