Bonn, 15/04/13 - United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) today launched Capacity Building Marketplace, an innovative and interactive virtual one-stop shop to build capacity of the stakeholders to implement the Convention.
“The global marketplace is the place, where demand and supply of capacity building come together in an easy way enabling the mutually rewarding exchange and interchange,” said UNCCD Executive Secretary Luc Gnacadja during the launch on Monday, 15 April, in Bonn, Germany.
The Marketplace was launched immediately following the opening of the eleventh session of the Committee for the Review of Implementation of the Convention, CRIC 11, a subsidiary body of the UNCCD Conference of the Parties.
The virtual market will collect needs identified by Parties and other stakeholders in the UNCCD process globally and will disseminate available and emerging capacity building opportunities to match the identified needs directly.
“I call on the country Parties, partner organizations, civil society community and individuals, who are the owners and clientele of the marketplace to drive the demand and get involved in offering the supply on this Marketplace,” Luc Gnacadja added.
The marketplace will provide a wide range of free services, including securing scholarships, fellowships, volunteerism, e-learning, university courses, and other forms of knowledge sharing.
“This initiative is filling an important gap. I welcome and congratulate UNCCD Secretariat on the launch of the good platform”, Sahon Flan of the Network for Environment and Sustainable Development in Africa (REDDA-NESDA) said during the launch.
