Elections for the CSO representative to SPI

​The secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) calls for voting on representative of the civil society organizations accredited to the Conference of the Parties to the UNCCD for a position of a CSO observer to the Science–Policy Interface (SPI). In this regard, please recall the mandate and Terms of Reference of the Science–Policy Interface available on the here

We would like to remind you that the role of the CSO observer to the SPI will be to contribute to the sessions, represent the views and needs of the civil society, and propose recommendations. In addition to regular interaction with the CSO Panel, the representative will consult with the CSOs before the meetings and provide them reports on the progress and work of the SPI.

As of April 4th, 2014, the UNCCD secretariat had received applications from candidates for the CSO observer to the Science–Policy Interface following call for candidatures opened on March 14th. After revision of the documents by the CSO Panel, we are pleased to present six candidates for selection by the community of accredited CSOs:

• Mr. Christian HOUDUS, Eau Vive
• Ms. Maria Jose MARQUES, DesertNet International
• Mr. Valdemar RODRIGUES, Instituto Desert
• Ms. Marioldy SÁNCHEZ SANTIVAÑEZ, Asociación para la Investigación y Desarrollo Integral - AIDER
• Ms. Nathalie VAN HAREN, Both ENDS

enclosed  In compliance with the provisions, your organization is hereby kindly invited to select two (2) of the above-mentioned candidates. The most voted for candidate will be the CSO observer to the SPI, while the second most voted for candidate will be designated as alternate.  While indicating your nominations, please consider the selection criteria for the candidates for a position of CSO observer within the Science–Policy Interface mentioned in the Call for CSO representative to the SPI. It is available for reference on the UNCCD website here

Please submit your nominations sending the scanned form via e-mail to CSO@unccd.int (indicating in the subject “CSO representative to the SPI”) or via fax to +49 228 815 2898/99. The deadline for submission is May 2st, 2014 at midnight CET. All votes will be acknowledged electronically to the official contact of the voting organization within 48 hours of receipt. Please be advised that only one form per organization can be submitted. Notification of the results of this process will be communicated on the UNCCD website.
