A 2007 United Nations General Assembly resolution declared 2010 to 2020 the United Nations Decade for Deserts and the Fight Against Desertification (UNDDD).

The observance event this year, whose venue and date are yet to be determined, will focus on global efforts to curb the degradation of the land - essentially to be land-degradation neutral.
