First Global Soil Week, organized by The Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies Potsdam (IASS), takes place on November, 18-22 2012 in
Berlin. It is a global platform for the
discussion of soil issues and practical solutions.
The Global Soil Forum
(GSF) was established in 2011. It initiates processes that foster the translation of
soil knowledge into action, contributes to international policy discussion advocating for soil
management and supports sustainable development and equitable
access to this finite resource.
The Global Soil Week arises from the collaboration between the IASS’s Global Soil Forum and its partners:
- European Commission
- Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
- German Federal Environmental Agency
- United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification
- United Nations Environment Programme
The First Global Soil Week provides a platform to initiate follow-up actions on land and soil-related decisions made at the Rio+20 Sustainable Development Conference, and takes place within the framework of the FAO’s Global Soil Partnership.
Within the the First Global Soil Week a film festival "Grounded" is being held.
The program of documentary films evokes awareness of soil in the environment.
