Strengthening regional cooperation to address environmental concerns in South Eastern Europe

The annual Regional Coordination meeting of the Environmental and Security Initiative (ENVSEC) was held in Podgorica, Montenegro on March 31st – Aptil 1st 2014. The ENVSEC is a partnership between international organizations such as OSCE, REC, UNDP, UNECE, UNEP and associated partner NATO which aims to reduce environmental and security risks by strengthening regional cooperation.

More than 100 participants attended the meeting, including high officials from Montenegro, national focal points from the region, CSOs, academia and representatives from the business sector. During the meeting the participants acknowledged the progress made in addressing environmental and security risks in South Eastern Europe (SEE) region. It was agreed that regional cooperation in SEE is a key priority for a new decade.
