Luc Gnacadja: "The marketplace is here to ensure we have a very efficient and effective mechanism to deliver Capacity Building where it is most needed."

On 15 April 2013 Mr. Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), officially launched the UNCCD's Capacity Building Marketplace.

In an interview with Esther Tola from Benin, Mr Gnacadja stressed the importance of the Marketplace for capacity building. "It is a way of trading knowledge, a way of trading capacity bringing those who can supply to those who are in need of it. In that regard it is a marketplace. It's the kind of special marketplace where what we trade in is indeed the capacity that some have and some are in need off. "

"I really want every stakeholder to own the Marketplace.", he added.  "You know the biggest market is the one where those who are in need will go, and where those who are suppliers will go. And that's the matchmaking. We really look forward to seeing ourselves be overloaded by the traffic of demand and supply to that marketplace. And that will be how we rate the success of this marketplace. "
