WACDEP doing rapid capacity needs assessment in Africa

The Water and Climate Development Programme (WACDEP) launched a rapid capacity needs assessment in Africa on Tuesday, 23 April 2013. This programme, which will initially target eight African countries and five of that continent’s river basins, operates within the “Framework for Water Security and Climate Resilient Development” and offers capacity-building opportunities to a broad field of stakeholders.

Opportunities for Capacity Development in Drought Management

The UNCCD, the WMO and the FAO in cooperation with the UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC), jointly launched on 12 March 2013 a project on capacity building to support national drought management policies. The initiative will see among other things, regional workshops being held in Eastern Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean in 2013-2014.

Training in restoring degraded eco-environment

Citizens of thirty countries around the world, from Cuba to Vietnam, and from South Africa to the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, can participate in the “Training Course on Restoration of Degraded Eco-environment.” The course to be held from June 18th to July 17th 2013, will take place at Gansu Desert Control Research Institute in Lanzhou city, in the Gansu province of the People’s Republic of China.

China offers training opportunities to francophone Africa

The government of China invites citizens of French speaking African nations to participate in an “International Training Workshop on Technology of Combating Desertification.” The course will run from June 24th --- July 13th, 2013. The Chinese government will cover the training expenses, food, accommodation, local transportation, personal accident injury insurance of RMB 100 Yuan, and give the sum of RMB 80 Yuan per day for the duration of the course.
