Understanding the indicator
The indicator measures the presence at the national level of DLDD-related knowledge-sharing processes, through the quantification of the type and number of existing knowledge-sharing systems. Effectiveness of these systems is measured through quantification of their user-base.
The indicator will provide information on to what extent scientific and traditional knowledge, including best practices, are available to and sufficiently shared with end users.
This information will be complemented by the reporting of other reporting entities on existing UNCCD-relevant knowledge-sharing systems at the subregional, regional and global levels.

Data needed
§    Information provided by reporting entities on name, link and users of knowledge-sharing systems relevant to DLDD.
Data sources
§    Reports from affected and developed country Parties, as well as from other reporting entities, submitted within the framework of UNCCD reporting.

“Knowledge-sharing system”.

Please note: this indicator will be compiled by the UNCCD secretariat, on the basis of the information provided by all reporting entities (see also CONS-O-8).

This indicator has been deleted from the reporting templates of all reporting entities, since the global target was achieved in 2011(2) However, all reporting entities are requested to provide additional information on DLDD-relevant knowledge-sharing systems under CONS-O-8, where any such system at the national, subregional, regional and global levels should be listed (including providing an Internet link and estimated number of users per year).

(2) As of August 2011, the Convention website includes a database on knowledge-sharing systems as part of PRAIS. The secretariat compiled all the links to knowledge-sharing systems submitted by Parties and other reporting entities and made them available on the PRAIS portal sorted by region, subregion and country.
