In accordance with decision 16/COP.11, the secretariat and the Global Mechanism (GM) have implemented a number of improvements to the performance review and assessment of implementation system (PRAIS), with a view to making the reporting and review process more simple and effective and to increase the quantity and quality of information to be reviewed by the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC).
The 2014 reporting templates
Reporting on voluntary national targets
Following decision 16/COP.11, Parties decided to invite affected country Parties (ACPs) to provide information on voluntary national targets – consistent with the global targets identified by the Conference of the Parties (COP) – to measure progress in achieving the priorities established in the national action programme (NAP).
The secretariat has therefore introduced a new reporting element whereby ACPs may either inform the CRIC about voluntary national targets that are similar to those adopted by Parties at COP 9 or provide information on any other national target that they adopted for the operational objectives and the performance indicators of the Strategy.
Reporting on sources of Information
Throughout the reporting templates, reporting entities are invited to provide information about the sources of information that they used to compile data and submit information under the performance indicator section. These are free text fields that should be used to provide references to the reports, books, Internet links, etc., that were used to provide UNCCD relevant information.
Reporting on qualitative assessments
As part of the reduction of information requested in the reporting templates, the secretariat has transformed what used to be the qualitative assessment into an open field text box that can be used to provide any additional information that a reporting entity deems important for a performance indicator. In most cases the secretariat provides some hints above the free text box regarding what kind of information may be input but reporting entities are invited to provide any information they deem important.
2014 reporting procedures
Nominations for Reporting Officers
Country Parties are requested to officially communicate to the secretariat any changes in the NFP and country reporting officer (full name, affiliation, e-mail address and other contact details), in order to facilitate access to the online platform in good time for them to upload the national report.  A reference list of officially nominated NFPs can be found at <>.
Reporting deadlines
Country parties are informed that, in order to compile and analyse the information submitted and prepare for the next session of the CRIC, national reports are expected to be submitted via the online facility by 30 June 2014.
Reporting period
The reporting period for the 2014 reporting leg refers to data from the years 2012–2013 unless otherwise requested in the template.
