Regional workshops on National Drought Management Policies

The UNCCD, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in cooperation with the UN-Water Decade Programme on Capacity Development (UNW-DPC), jointly launched on 12 March, 2013 a project on capacity-building to support national drought management policies. Part of this project is a series of regional workshops in several drought-prone regions of the world throughout 2013 and 2014 and a final wrap-up conference in late 2014.
The project launched during a High-level Meeting on National Drought Policies held in Geneva is aimed at increasing the capacities as regards the development of risk based national drought management policies. This is based on the identification of the capacity needs from national to local levels to develop such policies and implement risk based management strategies. The development of these national drought management policies is important as they are linked to other important and pressing issues on the global agenda such as water and food security, biodiversity loss, climate change and desertification and land degradation.
More information on the regional workshops will be published soon.
