Organic Fertilizer for Sustainable Agriculture

Organic fertilizers have been known to improve the biodiversity and long-term productivity of soil; also it has been a good alternative for the high-cost commercially-based fertilizers. According to Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA) the demand for organic fertilizer has been on a steady rise since 2004. This course will tackle the step by step procedures of making organic fertilizer such as Fermented Plant Juice (FPJ), Fermented Fruit Juice (FFJ), Fish Amino Acid (FAA) and Tea Manure. This course is devided into thre different modules: Module 1 deals with the guidelines in selecting organic materials for composting, and the costs and returns when producing your own organic fertilizer. Module 2 on the other hand discusses the natural farming inputs, specifically the liquid organic farm inputs, the raw materials and procedures in preparing the inputs, their uses and application rates, advantages and limitations, and their production costs. Module 3 tackles the application of organic fertilizer for growing tropical vegetables. This module explains the general principle and procedure in applying organic fertilizer in organic vegetable production. For this course a registration is required.
