Asian Development Bank Capacity Building Assistance for managing water supply and sanitation

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) assisted a number of its Pacific developing member countries in the area of water supply and sanitation. The main issues to be dealt with were water shortage, water and land usage, and constraints of financial and human capital. The ADB assisted these countries in terms of loans and technical assistanceĀ  aimed at improving the operational and financial performance of water utilities, enabling them to provide better services to their clients and to become less dependent on government subsidies. However, it was evident that institutional and infrastructure changes were in order for these goals to be achieved.
