Goethe University, Frankfurt a.M., Germany, February 1995 • Abitur (Highschool), Koenigstein, Germany, June 1989 WORK EXPERIENCE Integrated Environmental Consultants Namibia (IECN) cc, Windhoek, Namibia Managing Director (Owner, co-founder and principal consultant) 2001 - ongoing • Owner of business (founded in 2001) and responsible for day-to-day management of company affairs. • Recent work has included the finalisation of the PASS full-sized project document (protected areas, Namibia), mid-term evaluation of two climate change adaptation GEF funded projects in Cape Verde and Zambia, the development of the NAPA for Equatorial Guinea, and finalisation of Namibia’s Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan • Other work mostly focused on a suite of climate change adaptation related projects under the Africa Adaptation Programme funded by the Government of Japan through UNDP in 20 countries of Africa. After having designed the AAPs for several countries in Africa, I led a team of an international and Namibia-led consortium working on the development of a national climate change risk capacity plan, professional updating events for technical experts, a high-level decision maker updating series, the implementation of a climate change adaptation youth programme, development of 12 regional community adaptation toolkits and the testing of two case studies focusing on adaptation related policy priorities. Further recent climate change assignments include the preparation of a full-sized GEF funded project on climate change adaptation in the water sector (capacity building specific) in Sierra Leone, CCA in the agriculture sector in Liberia (UNDP/GEF), development of two PIFs for the fisheries sector in Cape Verde and Malawi respectively for FAO. In Namibia significant inputs into preparation for Rio +20 have been facilitated through organising a national dialogue on the potential of a Green Economy Transition in Namibia. • Several projects focused on introducing Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) as key concepts at the community level in Africa with a focus on northern Namibia, including the establishment of baselines in terms of current knowledge, information and capacity needs, and existing coping strategies, and based on such information the development of information and training materials for local farmers and extension services in the region. Other current work on CCA relates to assisting a suite of African Governments (i.e. Namibia, Mozambique, Cameroon, Rwanda) with the development of proposals (UNDP project documents) for establishing national frameworks for dealing with CCA over the next decade, as part of the UNDP/Japan Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP). Supported UNDP/GEF LDCF proposals for Liberia, Eritrea, Benin and Rwanda as International Consultant. • Monitoring and evaluation, as well as end-of project evaluation, includes UNDP Zambia (End of project evaluation – West Lunga Protected Area), UNDP Madagascar (Mid-term evaluation of UNDP/GEF component of Third Environment Programme), Mid-term evaluations for Cape Verde (water sector) and Zambia (agriculture), programme evaluation of the Namibia Environment Fund Small Grant Programme, Mid- and end-term evaluation of the Communication and Awareness Strategy for NACOMA (World Bank project), among others. Commission of Education and Communication (CEC) of the International Union for Conservation and Nature (IUCN) Global Chair of CEC (Elected at World Conservation Congress, Jeju, South Korea, September 2012 – 2016) • Leadership for Commission, with set up Steering Committee ( facilitate professional network with a membership of over 1,500 individuals. • Commission Objectives (2013-16): The IUCN Commission on Education and Communication will contribute practical communication, education, capacity development and knowledge management expertise to the IUCN Quadrennial Programme 2013-2016 of (i) valuing and conserving nature; (ii) effective and equitable governance of nature’s use; and (iii) deploying nature-based solutions to global challenges. Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) - Montreal, Canada Programme officer - Dry and sub-humid lands 2002 - 2004 • Responsible for the coordination of the implementation of the programme of work on biological diversity of dry and sub-humid land and for other programmes such as on technology transfer and technological cooperation, agricultural biodiversity, the ecosystem approach and the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) on an ad hoc basis; • Responsible for joint work programme between CBD and UN Convention to Combat Desertification and work on synergy among the Rio Conventions and other biodiversity-related conventions (i.e. Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES), Convention on Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), World Heritage Convention (WHC), Ramsar Convention on Wetlands) • In charge of providing guidance to global environmental governance and day-to-day management of programmes of work.
