May 2005 to date Team Leader, RRM: Environmental Change and Ecosystem services (ECES) Program, International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) based in Kathmandu, Nepal Major Responsibilities Include: Coordinate research and capacity building activities of the rangeland programme; Collecting, analyzing and packaging information and knowledge on rangeland issues for effectively influencing rangeland management policies in the region; Organization of workshops, conferences with coordinators and/or project partner institutions; Interaction, networking and collaboration with relevant partners regarding to the programme implementation and reporting; Provide timely suggestion and feedback to the partners to enable effective implementation of the programme; Establish, moderate and maintain of regional e-network of rangeland professionals in the region; Work as a team player within ICIMOD to support other activities and promote institutional goals. Major Accomplishments; Established national policy initiative for rangeland in Pakistan involving Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock; Published and presented papers on local rangeland systems in Pakistan with a particular focus on Chitral; Contributed to the development of ICIMOD Regional Rangeland Programme III proposal 2007-2009; Pakistan and Afghanistan Action Research activities and programme revitalized and streamlined; Regional Database on rangeland developed and updated; Regional Discussion group on rangeland co-management formed and made functional; Facilitated and contributed to National consultations on rangeland policy making process in Bhutan, Nepal and Pakistan; Organized national training on GIS application for rangeland management; Established the first ICIMOD country office Afghanistan. 2. April 1998 to April 2005 Natural Resource Management Officer Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) Pakistan: Seven-years experience with Aga Khan Rural Support Programme, Pakistan as a Project Forester in Natural Resource Management Programme. Provided technical support to the local communities in afforestation, soil conservation and fodder development beside the promotion of juniper, capper, Russian olive, mushrooms, hawthorn etc. . Building capacities and strengthening local mountain community institutions for collective and participatory development with full ownership and sustainability. My major responsibilities and duties were: Supervise, implement and monitor the forestry projects in Chitral region; Responsible for budget preparation, disbursement and reporting; Forest nurseries establishment for technology transfer to the grass-roots; Afforestation of multi-purpose trees for environmental protection, fuel wood, timber and fodder security; Inter cropping for soil conservation and fodder development; Organize environmental education programme; Supervision of Fish Farming and Bee Keeping components of forestry programme; Establish research demonstration on conservation of juniper; Work on medicinal plants and range management; Holding dialogues with community organizations and linkages development; Technical Report writing and capacity building of the community in different forestry packages Training Participated; Participatory Monitoring & Evaluation Training organized by ICIMOD and IDRC, Chengdu, China; GIS/RS training organized by ICIMOD, Kathmandu, Nepal; Computer Training customizes Excel 2003 and Access 2003 from Katmandu, Nepal; Successfully completed one month training of trainer programme (TOT) organized by Aga Khan Rural Support Programme in collaboration of University of East Anglia UK; Gender sensitization training organized by AKRSP Chitral; Bee keeping training organized by AKRSP Chitral; Fish Farming training organized by AKRSP Chitral; PRA programme organized by MACP (IUCN) in Laspur valley; Training in beneficial micro- organism technology from NFRDP from Faisalabad.
