About the organization

"Fundación Agreste is Civil Society Organization established in Argentina in 1993. Its works in post of the Sustainable Development specially in social and environmental issues but also in the development of projects for the empowerment of rural communities, the implementation of innovative techniques for the development of the family farming and adding value to artesian productions, among others.

Fundación Agreste is an observer member of UNCCD and in the last 10 years has presented many innovative proposals, in particular to involve the private sector in the UNCCD implementation process. The Social Environmental Commitment to Private Sector was oriented especially to award the companies witch implement Sustainable Land Management value chain."

"Our organization seeks to work in field together with public and private sector, knowing that this is the way to implement sustainable and commitment projects, involving to all the stakeholders.

We have the support of some small and medium companies, which provide some in species donations and, some time, small money donations to buy some materials. That’s why we are looking for effective economic donations witch can help as to strengthen and ensure the continuity of our field community projects.

Project for which donations are sought

"Fundación Agreste is working in various projects in the small town of Paso Grande, in the Province of San Luis in Argentina. The objective of all this projects and our work in this small town is improve the quality of life of the people and provide tools to develop productive enterprises, and with this help to prevent the migration that affect this place during the last decade (the population decreases to around 8% annually. Currently have about 400 inhabitants within urban and rural population)."

"Our projects are oriented by Ecosystem Based Adaptation, promoting resilience to reduce vulnerability of the population, by strengthening the institutional and associative capacities that would sustain and improve productivity as well as its resistance to extreme events and the chance of recovery.

At the same time the projects are focused in adopt sustainable land management practices, with the under the guide of the best practices at the national and global level."

Project implementation and evaluation

"The projects link each other in the evaluation and monitoring of land degradation and drought. We are coordinating there one of the pilot sites of the National Observatory of Land Degradation and Drought (LADA methodology). 

Almost, we implement in the urban site a communitarian greenhouse for stational vegetables and aromatic species (naturals of this place).
With these projects we can provide much information about the growth of social empowerment and the adaptation capacity of the community to the changes, as well as qualitative and quantitative results of the Sustainable Land Management implementation progress.

Our organization have extensive experience in reporting of progress and accountability, so have the capacity to adapt to the different protocols of accountability of any organization."

Donations and crowdfunding opportunities

"We are looking for small donations to support the implementation of a mechanism to finance small productive projects of associations of small producers and local value adding by production of artisanal derivatives.
At the same time these small donations, by starting the projects, allow to improve the mobilization of additional resources at national and regional level (from individuals, professionals, governments, businesses, etc.)."

Information regarding projects seeking donations is provided by the secretariat as a service to individuals and organizations supporting the efficacious implementation of the UNCCD. The secretariat (the Capacity Building Marketplace) is not involved in setting up the project, handling the donations or keeping track of and providing updates on the progress of the projects.
