Mr. Siphiwe Ngwenya, Chief Executive Officer, Gauteng Economic Development Agency (GEDA) and one of the sponsors of the evening dinner and reception presented GEDA's strategic plan of developing the capacity of the Gauteng Region and the rest of the Continent.

During her performance, UNCCD Drylands Ambassador and celebrated South African Gospel Singer Deborah Fraser shared her role in raising awareness about land degradation in the region and globally. In her statement, Ms Fraser said everybody, "land degradation impacts hugely the world today. Water scarcity threatens food security. Land is an important agricultural resource.… Charity begins at home. Coming from a family of livestock farming, I will be soon engaging in farming myself where I live now, which means walking the talk. I will also use my skills and experience of farming to teach people how to save our land through ploughing it to prevent soil erosion. Start in your back yard."
