 2017 Land for Life Award

Announcement:
We are now inviting partner organizations, civil societies and governmental institutions to nominate candidates to be considered for 2017 Land for Life Award.
 
On the theme “Land and Human Security”, the 2017 Award aims to identify and honour individuals or organizations that showcase effective and creative sustainable land management approaches. These approaches should contribute to stability and security for communities who have suffered from the impacts of land degradation and desertification.  In particular, they should be helping communities at risk or forced to abandon their homes due to insecurity deriving from environmental degradation.  
 
Nomination and selection:
The UNCCD Secretariat has the pleasure to invite qualified nominators to propose outstanding candidates that demonstrate qualities and results that have been contributing to achieve Land Degradation Neutrality goal at national or international level following the selection criteria. We are in particular interested in the potential nominees who have been contributing significantly to creating and providing opportunities or alternatives for vulnerable groups e.g. migrant returnees, refugees, forced environmental migrants, young people or indigenous groups or communities of affected areas due to degraded environment.

For the proposed candidate to be considered, nominators are requested to complete the normination form, briefly describe the candidate(s) works including a website link that describe candidates' work, and provide the rationale for nominating the candidate. 
Please note: Self-nomination is not permitted.
Deadline of normination submission is 28 February 2017.

Institiutions or individuals of UNCCD partner organizations/ local authorities/ civil socities /state governments / UN agencies / UNCCD National Focal points​
  
Selection process:
This is a closed selection process through internal consultation. The UNCCD Civil Society Organizations panel, selected advisors and UNCCD secretariat will screen and short-list the candidates based on the selection criteria. 3 - 5 finalists will be selected and presented to UNCCD Executive Secretary for review. 
The final decision of the winner is at the discretion of the UNCCD Executive Secretary.
