The UNCCD 3rd scientific conference on “Combating desertification, land degradation and drought for poverty reduction and sustainable development – the contribution of science, technology, traditional knowledge and practices
” (decision 18/COP.10
) will take place at the fourth special session of the Committee
on Science and Technology (CST S-4) from 9 to 12 March 2015 in Cancun, Mexico.
Global changes are expected to aggravate DLDD and the vulnerability of populations, particularly those living in drylands. The conference will therefore focus on how to anticipate the impact of climate change and land degradation, in order to be able to promote adaptive and sustainable land management approaches to reduce poverty and land degradation while achieving sustainable development.
How to get involved?
Parties, observers and relevant organizations are encouraged to contribute to the success of the meeting and showcase their work by:
- Submitting a proposal for a side event: Requests to hold side events during CST S-4 and its 3rd scientific conference should be submitted at the latest by 9 January 2015. More information and the application form can be found in the guidelines for organizers of side events.
- Applying for a booth: Partners wishing to participate as exhibitors are kindly requested to fill in and send the application form by 9 January 2015. More information can be found in the invitation letter to exhibitors.
Unfortunately the UNCCD secretariat will be unable to provide financial support to participate in the event. Grant opportunities
may be offered by various other organizations and are listed in the UNCCD Capacity Building Marketplace
as a service.
The conference is organized by the consortium "Scientific & Traditional Knowledge for Sustainable Development" (STK4SD
) under the guidance of the Bureau of the CST.
