"Science, technology and knowledge" is one of the key areas of action of the Strategy, which aims to make the UNCCD "a global authority on scientific and technical knowledge pertaining to desertification/land degradation and mitigation of the effects of drought (DLDD)" (Operational objective 3). The CST was given primary responsibility to fulfil this objective and its operations were reshaped in order to enable the attainment of this objective. Since the adoption of The Strategy, the CST has been working on the following thematic topics: Monitoring and Assessment of DLDD (included through work on impact indicators and the UNCCD 1st Scientific Conference) Economics of DLDD (UNCCD 2nd Scientific Conference), International Scientific Advice, Knowledge Management and the Fellowship Programme.
