Work ExperienceIn the last 15 years, I have taken part in more than ten research projects, in which there are four state key projects and two international projects. 1982-1985. Research assistant. Partaken of The Study on nutrient cycling of forest ecosystem in Mt. Jiulianshan. This study contributes to better understanding the relationship between the fertiliy of forest soils and the environmental factors through the measurement of the soil nutrient storage and its distribution in soil profiles under different vegetative cover. 1985-1987: Research assistant. Partaken in the study on the development and management of natural resources in the northeastern mountain areas of Guangxi. In this project, I have presented a new technique to help quantify the degree of damage to the landscape using the data from aerial photographs, land-use map and some field data. 1987-1991: Assistant Prof. Presided over compilation of Land Resources Map of Loess Plateau China at the scale of 1:500,000. Other ActivitiesLast year I have been in the United States from March to October. During my Research abroad at EROS Data Center, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, I have concentrated my effort on the research of land cover characterization in China. In the study, a two level scheme of land-cover classification system has been adopted for the clustering of China's land cover and the preliminary land cover map of China has been derived from NOAA-AVHRR data. And then the land cover characterization in China, including the characterristics of land-cover types, seasonal variation and spatial distribution, has been identified.
