Work ExperienceMy research work in Patagonia, a vast region devoted to sheep farming, began in 1948 and represented a point of inflection in the knowledge of vegetation supporting the sheep industry. Several floral and ecological units were identified and described. These units, an unavoidable basis for management, have been confirmed recently with the use of satellite imagery. In 1993, I was invited to write the chapter on Patagonia in the volume corresponding to Temperate Deserts and Semideserts of the World in the collection Ecosystems of the World, Elsevier Publ. Co. My recent work, accomplished with my collaborators clarifies certain processes, determined by the conjunction of sheep grazing, environmental conditions and social factor, which represent useful tools for extension agents and farm administrators. All the results obtained by us have been published in local and international journals such as Oecologia, Vegetatio, Journal of Applied Ecology, etc.
