31 March - 4 April, 2008

OASIS

Special information spot was organized by the UNCCD Regional Coordination Unit Bangkok for the Climate Change Talks from 31 March to 4 April in Bangkok, Thailand.

The information spot enjoyed frequent visits of participants in the UNFCCC meeting. The spot consisted of the UNCCD exhibition display and information materials, which focused on the desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD) issues pertinent to address Climate Change. From its inception UNCCD has been engaged in enhancing the adaptive capacities of drylands populations to highly variable environmental conditions.Land use, land-use change and forestry, are among the issues that the working groups analyzed in Bangkok . Delegates from 163 countries attended the Bangkok Climate Change Talks 2008, which attracted a total of around 1200 participants, including government representatives, participants from business and industry, environmental organizations and research institutions. At the end of the meeting, Parties agreed, among others, to continue including forest and land use-related activities as a means to achieve emission reductions in the second commitment period
