DW RADIO has produced a major series of programmes on desertification to coincide with the International Year of Deserts and Desertification. Its reporters travelled to dryland regions across the globe gathering first-hand accounts from people living in affected areas. They aimed to show that this is not simply an environmental issue, but has far-reaching social, political and economic implications. As well as illustrating the devastating consequences of desertification, the series explores ways to combat it.
