Indigenous peoples are approximately half a billion people around the world who present unique sociopolitical, economic and environmental perspectives.

Their unique relationship with the land and dependence on its resources for livelihood coupled with  their unique traditions and ancestral knowledge position them as key agents in land conservation who possess invaluable assets for the sustainable management of natural resources. The first-ever Indigenous Peoples Forum at the UNCCD COP will bring together civil society leaders, youth activists, land practitioners and seasoned negotiators to share knowledge and incorporate the indigenous perspectives into the work of the Convention.
