Drought is already affecting all types of countries, in all types of geographies, negatively impacting global food systems, health, economic and social opportunities. It will increasingly do so unless we all change, prepare and invest in solutions. Insufficient rainfall is not the only cause of drought. There is a lack of awareness about human-induced water scarcity exacerbates the effects of drought. By 2050, three quarters of the world’s population and half of global grain production will be exposed to severe water scarcity. Women and indigenous communities will be especially vulnerable during periods of drought. We want to raise awareness about the various impacts of drought on life to encourage people to become more drought resilient. Drought is a slow-onset disaster, not necessarily an emergency. Preparedness and swift action are needed as soon as it emerges. We want to change mindsets from reactive to proactive around drought mitigation. Using a touch of lighthearted humor and irony, Through a series of graphic and audiovisual assets, UNCCD created a fictionalized country called Droughtland world’s attention to ensure no lands or countries become the real Droughtland in which the citizens's lives and socioeconomic conditions are forever changed by drought. We’d love your help disseminating this message so all people can enjoy water security in the future. We invite you to be part of the campaign by helping us amplify some of the Droughtland content and activations. We’d love to reach audiences and governments all over the world, and you could help us achieve that.
