The 7th Meeting of the Science-Policy Interface (SPI) will take place at the UN Campus in Bonn, Germany, 15-16 February 2018. The SPI’s unique composition of global as well as regional independent scientists, science-focused policy makers and observers (representing UN agencies, international organizations and civil society) has proven highly effective in translating research evidence into a form that can support science-based policy development. The SPI, which was renewed following a favorable evaluation and the endorsement of the 13th Conference of Parties in September 2017, will now work with the scientific community to help countries plan for and implement Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) interventions. It will further provide a scientific foundation for policy frameworks being developed for national drought planning, migration, sand and dust storms and gender equality responsiveness, and select appropriate approaches to measure and monitor carbon sequestration in managed soils. The SPI coordinates its work with other international panels and bodies to prevent duplication and maximize the collective efforts of the larger scientific community.
