Story
Mpulungu/Lusaka, Zambia – Women farmers, project implementers, policy makers and NGO representatives came together on 13-17 May to discuss mainstreaming gender in projects that contribute to achieving land degradation neutrality (LDN) targets in Zambia.
The Global Mechanism of UNCCD, together with the International Union for Conservation of Nature, conducted workshops to broaden awareness of the gender dimensions within the LDN concept and enhance the capacity of participants to mainstream gender in the project cycle. Participants had the opportunity to share their experience of gender issues in sustainable land management, in particular related to women empowerment and participation in project activities.
The workshops produced recommendations for strengthening gender integration in the development and implementation projects that contribute to achieving Zambia’s LDN targets, specifically in the GEF and AfDB funded project on Zambia Lake Tanganyika Basin sustainable development and in a project developed by the Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation, and Environmental Protection together with the World Wildlife Fund to secure Luangwa’s water resources for shared socioeconomic and environmental benefits through integrated catchment management.
