Story
The Russian Federation has joined the Northeast Asia Network for DLDD (DLDD-NEAN) as of 13 July 2020. DLDD-NEAN, an official reporting entity, is a sub-regional cooperation platform for the implementation of the UNCCD in Northeast Asia. The network was launched at the UNCCD COP10 in Changwon, with Mongolia, the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Korea as founding members. All members of DLDD-NEAN welcome Russia as the new member of the network.
Russia’s participation in the network will contribute to reinforcing regional cooperation including combating desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD), sand and dust storms (SDS), achieving land degradation neutrality (LDN) in the region and boosting joint activities within the network. This affiliation will also facilitate further interregional cooperation and partnerships, strengething ties between regional annexes and the Convention.
Since its inception, the network has served as a platform for promoting regional cooperation, focusing especially on knowledge and information sharing, technical cooperation, and a joint forestry project. The network holds an annual Steering Committee meeting and forum as main operational process.
The network is seeking membership expansion to further strengthen regional cooperation to address DLDD and SDS issues in the region and share best practices with the international community.
