UN Bonn podcast with UNCCD Land Ambassador Inna Modja

The latest episode of the 'Inside UN Bonn' podcast, released on 2 February, features the Malian musician and UNCCD Land Ambassador Inna Modja who talks about her work for the Great Green Wall (GGW) Initiative. "We're growing new lungs for the planet" – this is how Inna describes the GGW Initiative that aims to restore Africa’s degraded landscapes, fight the climate crisis and transform millions of lives. Inna says that her passion for the project reflects in all her work – as a musician, visual artist and women's right advocate. It also inspires her to explore new outlets to generate support for the GGW. In collaboration with other digital artists, she recently launched a charitable non-fungible token (NFT) art drop to help finance women-led land restoration solutions in the Sahel. UNCCD podcast series: episode 4

The first webinar on land-based jobs for youth was held successfully in November last year. Experts shared practical knowledge to help young people to overcome key obstacles to creating their own jobs. More specifically, they talked about building self-confidence and generating creative ideas. Due to time constraints, important questions from the participants were not discussed. The experts answer these questions in two podcasts.  In this podcast episode, we speak to Ms. Thato Mokgadi, the Tomato “Agripreneur” from Botswana. She provides insights on a wide range of issues for those just starting out; from the key steps in starting a business to when and where to find and invest money. Ms. Mokgadi shares: the top three tips when moving from the corporate sector into Agribusiness; about technology use and how to choose the plants most suitable for your business; as well as mentorship and staffing issues in rural areas.  Tune in to the podcast to learn and pick up winning ideas, and overcome the fear of building land-based business and creating your own green jobs. My dream Is valid: From drought and conflict to security & jobs

The establishment of the Intergovernmental Working Group (IWG) on Drought is welcome news. This new inter-governmental process has immense value addition to the immediate positive outcomes of saving lives, livestock, rangelands and livelihoods in case of drought. It will improve major drought driven insecurity in some of the world’s most fragile areas by strengthening policy actions and improving coordination during implementation.
