Nutrients and carbon extracted from soil for agriculture production are locked as urban organic waste. This resource provides an opportunity to plough nutrients and carbon back to soils through products like composting and other value-added products like phosphorous rich organic manure (PROM), improving the health of the soil and contributing to carbon sequestration.
As part of the Global Special initiative – One World No Hunger by the Federal Government of Germany – ProSoil project in India with its implementation partner NABARD, works towards closing the loop of carbon and nutrients flow from soil back into soil, through viable economic models. GIZ has developed a digital solution called HARIT Ticker, to provide a market exchange platform between the production (urban local bodies) and the demand (farmers and FPOs ) for organic manure. The use of HARIT ticker is fostered through MOU between Urban Development Department (UDD), Government of Maharashtra, NABARD and GIZ.
Presented by the Indian office of Deutsche Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Urban Development Department, Government of Maharashtra
