Work experience
Technical employee (geomorphologist) and chief expert in the Directorate General of Afforestation and Erosion Control and Forest Tree Seeds and Tree Breeding Institute 1970 and 1975. was in charge of Plans management of many river basins, and the preparation of afforestation and erosion control projects. Was responsible for seed transfer regionning of Cedar, Beech, Oriental Spruce, Black Pine, Scots pine and Red pine forest trees_x000D_
2. After doctorate, was appointed to the Faculty of Letters, Department of Geography, Atatürk University in 1975. He became an associate professor in 1978. He joined the academic staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Department of Geography. Promoted to professorship in 1987, Atalay was appointed to Buca Faculty of Education, the Department of Geography Education at Dokuz Eylül University in 1988. After Atalay began his academic life at university, he continued his research on the ecology of Turkish pine, spruce, beech, black pine, Scots pine, and cedrus forests and the classification of their seed transfer zones. Also prepared many research projects with the support of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey. _x000D_
3. As of 1988, led research on climate changes that happened in the Quaternary Period, soil, paleoenvironment, and karst within the frame of International Geological Correlation Program (IGCP). Attended seminars, symposiums, and congresses on environmental sciences that are held abroad and delivered more than 50 speeches. Took part in scientific journeys many different countries except Portugal in Europe, countries in Central Africa, Southeast Asia, and a few Middle Eastern countries and worked as an editor of 9 English journals, one of which is published in Britain.
