At COP 13 in China (2017) UNCCD Parties expressed the need to galvanize support in implementing the SDS Policy Advocacy Framework that was developed by the UNCCD secretariat, in collaboration with partners.
At COP 14 in India (2019) Parties requested the UNCCD Secretariat to develop a SDS Toolbox to assist in managing and reducing the threats from these events.

The SDS Toolbox is based on content from the SDS Compendium and is being developed in collaboration between UNCCD, WMO, FAO, and WOCAT.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know which tool I need?

You can explore the various modules to get more insight in the available tools, how they are used, and how they work together. There is also a “getting started” section that provides a further introduction.

How can I use the tools of the SDS Toolbox?

You can find out more about each of the tools in the SDS Toolbox by going to each of the five modules using the links on the left side of the page.

What do we mean by a tool?

A range of methods, resources, technical instruments, and guidance documents are labelled as ‘tools’ or ‘solutions’ in the toolbox. Many of them are very useful to guide the management and the connection between the environment, society, and sand and dust storms.

Where can I find more information about sand and dust storms?

The best source of information about SDS is the SDS Compendium, produced by the UNCCD. This toolbox is largely based on the information from there. Additional information is available by clicking on the News and Stories and Resources links at the top of the page.
