After the COP 21, finance is at the heart of climate negotiations. A massive reorientation of investments is needed to keep global warming under 2 °C: The financing of highly carbon-emitting sectors must stop in favor of “green” activities and the support of new economic models. But is the financial sector ready for this change?
This study is inspired by the conviction that finance has all the means to contribute massively to the transitioning of the global economic system towards a carbon-neutral model. The study gives an account of finance’s recent realization of the climate issue, it explains the levers which are at the disposal of the financial sector and it describes the perspectives of the general implementation of “climate finance”. The transformation has begun: It must now gain speed. Today, the risks of not taking action and the opportunities to actually take action should be a driving force for the whole of the financial industry.
This book is available only in French.
