Desertification is being defined as the extension of desert-like conditions as a result of man's impact on the vulnerable ecosystem of the semiarid zone. It occurs along marginal regions of deserts and involves a complex of physical-geographical processes resulting in diminishing the natural potential of land.
The natural preconditions for desertification and its determinig factors are being investigated. Certain morphodynamic processes are considered as indicators of desertification.
Finally an attempt is made to outline methods for sensing and controlling desertification.
