As a prelude to the launch of the "Green Cities Initiative" scheduled for February 2023, the FAO Sub-Regional Coordinator for West Africa and the Sahel, Dr Gouantoueu Robert Guéi, hosted a breakfast release, Tuesday, January 10, 2023 in Abidjan-Cocody Riviera.
It was for him to present the objectives and challenges of this project led by the Institute of Circular Economy of the Autonomous District of Abidjan and supported by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization ( FAO).
Gouantoueu Robert Guéi, also Africa focal point for the "Green Cities Initiative", announced to this effect that this initiative will be marked by a pilot operation for which 50,000 dollars will be mobilized for the collection of organic waste and their transformation into animal proteins (Black Soldier flies).
The "Green Cities Initiative", which aims to reach 1,000 cities (metropolitan, medium and small) in the world by 2030, follows on from the Abidjan Appeal adopted by the Heads of State and Government during of the fifteenth Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification held from May 9 to 20, 2022 in Côte d'Ivoire. The Abidjan Call urges to give highest priority to the issue of drought and land protection.

En prélude au lancement de "l’Initiative Villes Vertes" prévu pour le mois de février 2023, le Coordonnateur sous-régional de la FAO pour l’Afrique de l’Ouest et le Sahel, Dr Gouantoueu Robert Guéi, a animé un petit déjeuner de presse, le mardi 10 janvier 2023 à Abidjan-Cocody Riviera.
Il s’agissait pour lui de présenter les objectifs et les enjeux de ce projet porté par l’Institut de l’Économie Circulaire du District Autonome d’Abidjan et soutenue par l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour l’Alimentation et l’Agriculture (FAO).
Gouantoueu Robert Guéi, par ailleurs point focal Afrique de "l’Initiative Villes Vertes", a annoncé à cet effet, que cette initiative sera marquée par une opération-pilote pour laquelle 50 000 dollars seront mobilisés en vue de la collecte des déchets organiques et de leur transformation en protéines animales (mouches du Soldat Noir).
