The international seminar on Role of information circulation systems (ICS) in scientific and practical approaches to combat desertification was organised in the framework of the EU AIDCCD (Active exchange of Experience on Indicators and Development of Perspectives in the Context of the UNCCD) Accompanying Measure, that specifically addresses the issue of the exchange of information and experiences at the global level among institutions who have a relevant role in the UNCCD implementation on its regional Annexes.
In particular, this seminar besides allowing the acquisition of information on existing Information Circulation Systems relevant to the desertification issue, also allowed the identification of the key factors that seem to be most important for their successful implementation, while identifying in the need for a "system of systems" approach (i.e. an institution that coordinates the already existing ICSs) as a requirement for a functional information circulation system for combating desertification.
