Regional perspectives on drought management in Asia

When: Monday, 13 May 2024

Where: Online

Tackling the intricacies of drought resilience and water management is essential for fostering sustainable development in Asia. Drought poses a significant threat to food security across the region, given the pivotal role of agriculture in its economies. Moreover, water scarcity in Asia extends its repercussions beyond agriculture, impacting industries like manufacturing and energy production that heavily depend on water resources, thereby hindering overall economic growth and stability. Given the transboundary nature of drought, effective mitigation efforts demand collaborative actions across nations. This webinar showcases three cross-country initiatives aimed at managing drought in different sub-regions of Asia: Insights from Central Asia on the formulation and execution of the "Regional Strategy for Drought Risk Management and Mitigation in Central Asia for 2021–2030" Advancements in climate change modeling and adaptation in the Middle East Experiences regarding collaborative efforts in crafting a "Regional Drought Risk Management Strategy in South Asia". This webinar will also mark the official launch of the UNCCD Community of Learning and Practice in Asia (CLP Asia).
