In 2021, UN Secretary-General António Guterres will convene a Food Systems Summit as part of the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”) by 2030 with the intention of inducing collaborative efforts to Build Back Better , and transform the way society produces, consumes, and considers food. The Summit supports nutrient-rich Food Systems Dialogues, one of the five priority workstreams. Ahead of the event, the UN Environment Management Group, in close collaboration with UNU Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources UNU-FLORES will organize a "Food system resilience through integrated natural resource management nexus" dialogue as an independent dialogue of the Food System Summit. In recognizing that food systems are simultaneously the cause- and effect of layered variables and interactions, the Nexus Dialogue seeks to investigate the accelerating effect of Integrated Natural Resource Management, underlined by systems-thinking. With the aim of detangling complexity, the Dialogue will focus on INRM’s impact, enhanced through Circular Bioeconomy strategies, on reducing the risks of poverty, health, and climate. More info...

GLF Africa invites practitioners, farmer organizations, Indigenous Peoples, community leaders, researchers, policymakers, financial investors, the private sector, civil society organizations, youth groups, activists, conservation and development organizations, amongst others, who are actively engaged in, interested in, and dedicated to the scaling of, dryland restoration in Africa. UNCCD Secretariat and WOCAT will launch their joint new publication "Restoring Life to the Land – The Role of Sustainable Land Management in Ecosystem Restoration." It will illustrate how Sustainable Land Management (SLM) experience feeds directly into ecosystem restoration efforts, as well as ecosystem maintenance. SLM has a central role to play in all the eight United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration ecosystems, through combatting land degradation but also by generating multiple co-benefits including climate change mitigation, resilience, improved biodiversity and enhanced production. In terms of land degradation neutrality – a central component of ecosystem restoration - SLM directly supports to avoid, reduce and reverse land degradation. Speakers representing different ecosystems and regions of the world will share their experiences in restoring life to the land with good SLM practices: from mountains to coasts, grasslands to forests, and croplands to urban areas. Asia Pacific Youth Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Crisis is a consultation workshop for the 9th Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction 2022. The workshop aims to strengthen, empower and mobilize young people for DRR and climate action, It is a mechanism that allows children and youth in the region to voice their concerns and influence different stakeholders at all levels, enabling resilience through youth leadership.
