Civil society organizations
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
Implements regional, national and sub-national environmental planning projects. Conducts research on NGO participation in policy reform and local-level natural resource management.
Aims to strenghten the role of women in policy making and in the implementation of Agenda 21, including in dryland areas.
The mission of Solar Cookers International (SCI) is to improve human health, economic well-being, women’s empowerment, and the environment by promoting climate-friendly solar cooking for vulnerable populations worldwide. SCI drives change through advocacy, capacity strengthening, and research. SCI partners with world leaders and global communities disproportionately affected by economic inequity and climate change to drive policy change and improve best practices that advances technology and increases access to solar cooking. With collaborators in over 135 countries, SCI has contributed to efforts that have made nearly 8 billion solar-cooked meals possible, addressing critical global challenges.
Hosts discussions for delegates involved in UNCCD, UNFCCC and IPCC work; prepares and distributes briefing papers; engages with grass-roots communities worldwide (Quaker and beyond) on sustainable lifestyles and the peace and justice implications.
Promotes sustainable development policies in dryland areas. Organises workshops and seminars on topics related to the implementation of the Convention and combatting desertification. Provides technical assistance to Governments on elaborating national action programmes.
Aims to raise public awareness on environmental problems through different mass media including radio and television programmes, news and feature articles and (traditional) communication systems such as theatre, art, dances and plays. Holds seminars and workshops on issues related to environmental problems.
Aims to raise public awareness on soil erosion, deforestation and natural habitats. Collaborates with Tubitak in the preparation of an erosion map of Türkiye.
Supports and promotes development issues through a strategy of networking and research. Coordinates diverse activities aimed at improving conditions in rural areas. Organized a regional symposium on land and sustainable development. Conducts research on land-use and land-tenure patterns in the Windward Islands.
Raises awareness on the long-term consequences of bush fires, deforestation and the mismanagement of natural resources. Promotes the education and training of the local community on all aspects concerned with the protection of the environment.
Undertakes projects concerned with combating desertification. Works with local communities, particularly rural farmers, women's and youth groups, to implement agroforestry projects. Collaborates with other stakeholders, including the Government, in tree-planting activities.
