The UNCCD Drought Toolbox serves as a platform to provide access to tools and resources for developing national drought plans and taking a proactive approach to drought management. The Drought Toolbox was developed by the UNCCD in close collaboration with partners, WMO, FAO, GWP, the Joint Research Centre of the European Union, the National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC) of the University of Nebraska, and the UN Environment DHI center. COVID-19 pandemic surfaced clearly the necessity, value and benefits of sustainability in our daily lives which can be enhanced through an effective synergy between climate action, biodiversity protection and land use. 2020 Desertification and Drought Day with its theme Food.Feed.Fibre is an excellent opportunity to connect the efforts on land degradation to the design of a new deal for nature and ambitious climate action where local and regional governments are essential partners for multilevel and collaborative action. Since their inception from the Earth Summit in 1992, ICLEI acts as the focal point for cities and regions for the processes related to the three Rio Conventions on behalf of Global Task Force of Local and Regional Governments. ICLEI is convening this session as part of its commitment to support the implementation of the Desertification COP14 held in Delhi, India in 2019, as well as preparations towards Climate COP26 in Glasgow, UK  and Biodiversity COP15 in Kunming, China in 2021. he Act#ForNature forum is the first global consultation in support of the fifth session of the world’s highest-level decision-making body on the environment – the UN Environment Assembly – which will be held at the United Nations Environment Programme Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya in February 2021. The forum will be convened under the leadership of Mr. Sveinung Rotevatn, President of the UN Environment Assembly and Minister of Climate and Environment of Norway, and Ms. Inger Andersen, Under Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
