SOS Sahel organizes Africa Days 2018 in Senegal

Under the theme "Sahel: cap vers une agriculture familiale, Comment assurer une valorisation des potentiels locaux?, Quelles coalitions d'acteurs pour bâtir avec les communautés un avenir durable?" the NGO SOS Sahel will organize the second edition of the Africa Days in Dakar, Senegal on 4-5 May 2018. The forum will focus on the small-scale agriculture as a way to bring value to the potential of the local communities. A market place and field visit will also portray the actions on the ground aiming at protecting the environment while ensuring the sustainable development of the populations dependent on agriculture. Nexus 2018: water, food, energy and climate

The “Nexus” approach is the one that focuses on overlaps across sectors while respecting sectoral expertise in order to make better plans by understanding interactions (Stockholm Environment Institute, 2017). iThis will be the second Nexus Conference that The Water Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has organized. The conference will facilitate space for the development of collaborative work and focus on the: science-policy interface partnerships solutions review of Sustainable Development Goal commitments (2018 and for the Heads of State review in 2019) sharing of tools, indicators and methodologies; and the identification of gaps It will build on recognizing and respecting the work that sector experts are engaged with while also addressing some key challenges that will require a Nexus approach these include: agriculture will have to produce 30-50 per cent more food by 2030 primary energy needs will increase by 40 per cent by 2030 demand for water will exceed global availability by 40 per cent in 2030 surge of 200 million climate change refugees will reverse global healthcare progress by 2050

Over the Border music diversity festival returns to Bonn

UNCCD is partnering with the City of Bonn, Institut Francais, Willi Eichler Academy, DAAD, Deutsche Welle and others to bring the positive vibes back to Bonn for the third time. The city that hosts many international, non-governmental and development organizations provides an ideal venue for a global music event with its proximity of ideas, knowledge and enthusiasm for the "one world" concept. Over the Border 2018 is set to surpass last year's festival that attracted over 6 000 visitors and more than 70 artists from 14 countries. The festival will open at the University of Bonn to engage the younger audience and will present side events such as the "Homeland and Freedom" discussion. International Conference: Working across Sectors to Halt Deforestation and Increase Forest Area – from Aspiration to Action
