The Republic of Azerbaijan is hosting this year's World Environment Day in Baku, uniting the world around urgent action on climate change.“Like almost every corner of the Earth, Azerbaijan is facing the devastating impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. Each year, it mobilizes millions of people across more than 150 countries to participate in activities and events aimed at accelerating progress for people and planet.With Azerbaijan as host, the 2026 edition will spotlight the climate crisis and solutions that deliver a safer, more resilient, and sustainable future. Building on its role as host of the landmark UN Climate Change Conference in 2024, Azerbaijan is investing in renewable energy, expanding forests, and advancing zero-waste initiatives—making it a natural partner for this global mobilization.

Soils are complex ecosystems and one of the earth’s most precious natural resources. Regenerating soils is key to mitigating and adapting to climate change and fighting the loss of biodiversity. Today, throughout viticulture and agriculture, solutions and innovations exist across the globe to manage soils in a more sustainable way. The World Living Soils Forum is organized to accelerate transition and: Connect people committed to soil regeneration Share concrete actions for sustainable and regenerative viticulture/agriculture Strengthen the link between science, innovation and realities of the field  Gather science-based KPIs and methodologies to champion soil healthThe forum brings together researchers, experts, public institutions, journalists, trade associations and companies from the food and beverage industry, offering lectures, round tables, masterclasses and workshops. The eighth Global Environment Facility Assembly and associated meetings will build on the momentum of previous gatherings, bringing together ministers, heads of international organizations, business leaders, civil-society advocates, Indigenous Peoples, women and youth from the GEF’s 186 member countries to chart an accelerated path toward global environmental goals. The Assembly, the GEF's highest governing body, meets once every four years. More info.

The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of the World Health Organization. It is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board. The UN Forum on Forests (UNFF) will organize its twenty-first session on 11-15 May 2026. The UNFF is a functional commission of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) with universal membership. Since its establishment in 2000, the Forum has set many milestones including the first UN Forest Instrument in 2007, the Global Forest Financing Facilitation Network (GFFFN) in 2015 and adoption of the first UN Strategic Plan for Forests 2030 and its six Global Forest Goals in 2017.
