Civil society organizations
The UNCCD COP recognizes that the involvement and participation of the civil society is vital to the successful implementation of this Convention. It therefore welcomes the contribution of CSOs, with particular regard to non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to the official meetings of the UNCCD.
Representatives from CSOs that are accredited to the COP may directly participate in the UNCCD secretariat’s sessions. At these sessions CSOs are consulted on United Nation’s policy and programme matters. They also play key roles at major United Nations conferences as indispensable partners for efforts at the country level. Below are the current accredited CSO's to the Convention.
Rare is an international environmental conservation nonprofit organization that specializes in sustainable behaviour change at the community level. Whether it is the change of an agricultural practice, of consumption habits or restoring lands and avoiding deforestation, combatting desertification needs community behavior change at scale. Rare showcases its proven behavior change approach applied over 40 years across 50 countries and 350 campaigns, to scale solutions that will prevent, control and reverse desertification and land degradation. To find out which innovations work on the ground, Rare also leverages its crowdsourcing platform, Solution Search, to surface, support and promote sustainable land management and solutions that combat desertification/land degradation.
The International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA) is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization that provides a platform for forestry students to enrich their formal education through facilitating cultural exchange at student meetings, student participation in scientific meetings, and youth involvement in international forest and environmental policy processes. IFSA works with several international partners and on global, regional, and local levels to build youth capacity and advocate for improved forest education and sustainable forest management.

Friends Chile Project is an e-diplomacy project, was born as a way to promote civism, human rights, principles of equality and cultural identity, providing its members an ideal tool for making efficient use of technology to strengthen ties with children of similar academic levels, representatives of diverse realities. The environmental department performs different activities oriented to raise awareness and developing skills, primarily among youngsters aged 12-18, along with their parents, about themes such as Climate Change, Social Responsibility to protect the environment, Youth empowerment and others, always with the intend to apply this knowledge to help community and the environment at a local level and eventually at a country level.
