Soil and the SDGs conference is organized in Brussel, Belgium on behalf of the European Commission, and is an opportunity for policymakers, public institutions, researchers, industry and civil society to come together to exchange knowledge and practices on the implementation in the EU of soil and land-related SDGs, and particularly the Land Degradation Neutrality target 15.3. During this one-day conference, a rich agenda will be addressed the challenges related to soil and land degradation in the EU and then the opportunities for urgently needed action will be explored . Throughout the day, representatives from the EU institutions, the European Environment Agency, the scientific community and UNCCD will provide insights on the issue from different perspectives. Selected member states will present their cases on the implementation and monitoring of the relevant SDGs. More info...

The third edition of the Conference on Land Policy in Africa is organised by the African Land Policy Centre – a joint initiative of the African Union Commission, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the African Development Bank. The Conference is a policy and learning event whose goal is to deepen capacity for land policy in Africa through improved access to knowledge and information on land policy development and implementation. The Conference scheduled for November 2019, dubbed CLPA-2019, will be held under the theme: Winning the fight against Corruption in the Land Sector: Sustainable Pathway for Africa’s Transformation. This theme supports the Declaration of 2018 by the African Union as the Anti-Corruption Year. The conference will include master classes, plenary and parallel sessions, side events, exhibitions, and the use of social media to reach a broader audience. The Science Day will provide a forum for brief presentations, expert statements and interactive discussions on support for planning and implementation of Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) at country level. Experts from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) among others will provide insights into how actions to avoid, reduce and reverse land degradation can also halt the loss of biodiversity and support land-based climate change adaptation and mitigation, through pursuit of LDN.
